- Systematic Approach Secures Application
The Blue Haven Raiders J.R.L.C application to compete within the Central Coast Division of Junior Rugby League 2007 competition was granted on Thursday, November 14th 2006. Research to determine the likely success of the Blue Haven Raiders and factual data was sourced and evaluated for months by our clubs founders: Brian Howden, Mark D'Silva and Mick & Jackie James before our application was filed with the Central Coast Division. Together they become the Inaugural Green Machine and set about the task of creating and establishing a junior sport and recreation club that has its day to day activities co-ordinated and conducted in ways that will always be fair, impartial and consistent. The importance of planning during the foundation process for the long term viability of the Blue Haven Raiders required a systematic approach. The Green Machine wanted to create Community Ownership of the Raiders and Lifestyle opportunities for the children and families within the Blue Haven and surrounding communities - identifying and involving those with an interest and importantly creating awareness for others. - Embraced by the Community
Public Meetings were advertised within the local papers and conducted at Blue Haven Primary School to gauage if there was sufficient demand and interest within the Blue Haven community for a junior sport and recreation club to be established - and the community welcomed the idea with open arms. An interim committee was formed with Brian being elected our inaugural Chairman and Mark our inaugural Treasurer. Both Brian & Mark needed to scout for potential funding, facilities and equipment if the Raiders application was going to be successful. The next process was conducting a community based Annual General Meeting (A.G.M) at Blue Haven Public School with the success of the Blue Haven Raiders depending on gaining sufficient community involvement to support the Green Machines initiative. The Blue Haven community embraced the concept and the Blue Haven Raiders Junior Rugby League Club was born. Brian Howden, Mark D'Silva and Mick & Jackie James were rewarded by their community by being elected on the Blue Haven Raiders Junior Rugby League Club inaugural Executive Board. Brian as President, Mark as Treasurer, Mick as Senior Vice President and Jackie as Secretary. People need to be asked if a sports club is going to be successful, whether through friends - family or individuals who intend to or currently have children participating. The Blue Haven Raiders introduced a human resource management approach to managing our volunteers. Resource planning, recruitment, selection and orientation with the emphasis on the benefits volunteer work provides. We also ensured our volunteers received training and development, performance appraisal, rewards and recognition. Children enjoy playing sport - its healthy and fun. Regardless of a child's abilities the Blue Haven Raiders strive to provide an experience that includes basic skills, drills and techniques that introduces fun, fitness and achievement from physical activity and sport. We reinforce and reward sportsmanship and behavior instead of making judgments based on performance only.
